ATLANTA, GA, November 3, 2004
Racing Radios, the leader in racing communications worldwide,
today announced that they successfully unwired the Atlanta Motor
Speedway using wireless equipment from Motorola’s Canopy
Wireless Broadband group and Tropos Networks, the leading provider
of metro-scale, broadband network equipment. |
|
 |
| |
“The complimentary nature of Motorola’s
Canopy products with the Tropos mesh network equipment allowed
us to very quickly, easily and cost effectively deploy a highly
reliable network covering the entire track area,” said
John Thornton, founder and CEO of Racing Radios. |
|
 |
| |
The network was tested for the first time
by 100 authorized users at the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Bass
Pro Shops/MBNA 500 race at the Atlanta Motor Speedway, on Sunday
October 31, 2004. Based on the results, Racing Radios intends
to supply broadband services to competitors, media-press, vendors
and RV facilities.

 |
| |
Racing Radios, in partnership with Titan
Networking Technologies, deployed a 900 MHz Motorola Canopy
point-to-point wireless link from Racing Radios’ off track
facility, where wired bandwidth was available, to the top of
the grandstands. This connection was used to supply the Tropos
network, which redistributed the bandwidth creating an 802.11
Wi-Fi mesh around the entire raceway. Users roamed freely throughout
the facility while remaining connected to the Internet at broadband
speeds. |
|
 |
| |
“In unwiring the Atlanta Motor Speedway,
Racing Radios was able to benefit from the synergy of Motorola
Canopy and Tropos Networks,” said Bert Williams, Vice
President of Marketing for Tropos Networks. “Canopy combined
with Tropos provided a very easy and economically compelling
solution for wide area Wi-Fi deployments.” |
|
 |
| |
Tropos Wi-Fi mesh networking systems are
used for a variety of public Internet access and mission critical
applications including public safety; database access; residential,
business and mobile user Internet access; video surveillance
and automated meter reading, to name a few. |
