Low-cost wireless broadband Internet access now available for homes, businesses and sea vessels throughout Newport Harbor and Laguna Beach, CA
LAGUNA BEACH CA – June 21, 2005 – Laguna Broadcasting Network (LB-Net), a leading provider of wireless broadband Internet services, and Tropos Networks, the proven leader in delivering truly ubiquitous, metro-scale, Wi-Fi mesh network systems, today announced the availability of wireless broadband services throughout Laguna Beach and Newport Harbor, including seafaring wireless broadband access to boats and yachts.
A demonstration of this cutting edge wireless networking technology will take place aboard the luxury yacht, Endeavor, tonight at 6:00pm PDT during a Wi-Fi connected cruise throughout Newport Harbor. The cruise will offer attendees the opportunity to experience true broadband Internet service, including voice and data, being delivered to a moving vessel as it sails throughout the 5 sq. mile area of Newport Harbor. American Yacht Charters, a co-sponsor of the launch event, is previewing the high-speed Internet service aboard the 114’ Endeavor yacht, which will be available for use during future private functions such as weddings and corporate hospitality events.
“Laguna Broadcasting, using Tropos Networks’ MetroMesh technology, has allowed us to provide the first true broadband service to a seafaring hospitality venue”, said Stuart Sitko, President of American Yacht Charters. “It will give our customers, especially corporate event customers, the same broadband experience they have in their home or office, making the Yacht Endeavor as business friendly as any land-based hotel.”
Newport Harbor is the latest extension to Laguna Broadcasting’s public Internet access network that has previously been available throughout Laguna Beach and along Pacific Coast Highway. Current LB-Net subscribers include local residents, businesses and local government agencies, as well as tourists and visitors to the area.
“Laguna Broadcasting is more than just a traditional Internet service provider, providing Webcasting of local events and working with the community to provide broadband access to critical public workers, such as fire and water safety,” said Ryen Caenn, President and co-Founder of Laguna Broadcasting Network.
“Deploying the Laguna Broadcasting Network has been a rewarding experience due to the reliability and ease-of-use of the Tropos gear. PRO 911 Systems mission includes advanced communications support to over 20 public safety agencies serving over 40 cities in California. The Tropos equipment we use for high security video also provides excellent capabilities to the Laguna Broadcasting Network,” said David Mitchell, President of PRO 911 Systems and a co-sponsor of this event.
“Laguna Broadcasting has been able to take maximum advantage of the fast, low-cost and simple benefits of the Tropos MetroMesh system”, said Bert Williams, Vice President of Marketing for Tropos Networks. “Over the last nine months they have deployed one of the largest wireless networks in Southern California, with metro-scale coverage in Laguna Beach, Irvine, and now Newport Beach, including over-sea connectivity. Their community network is a great example of how this technology can be used to improve services for the entire city.”
Tropos is the proven leader in delivering truly ubiquitous, metro-scale, Wi-Fi mesh network systems. Deployed in more than 150 customer sites worldwide, Tropos MetroMesh routers quickly and economically use the intelligent Tropos Predictive Wireless Routing Protocol (PWRP™) to provide pervasive coverage over metro areas. PWRP forms a wireless mesh, dynamically routing traffic along the highest throughput path to a wired gateway. This intelligent routing negates effects of radio frequency (RF) interference, wired backhaul failure and mesh router failure. PWRP scales to thousands of nodes with the lowest routing overhead in the industry. Network support costs are minimized via the central management capabilities of the Tropos Control element manager, a configuration, monitoring and maintenance tool.
