Tropos Insight, Tropos Drive, SignalMX®from EDX Wireless and new APIs will provide higher-performing, more comprehensive metro-scale Wi-Fi solutions for customers
SUNNYVALE, CA –
November 14, 2005 --
Tropos Networks, the proven leader in delivering ubiquitous, metro-scale, Wi-Fi mesh network systems, today announced significant enhancements to its MetroMesh architecture with its new family of MetroMesh operation and optimization tools developed by Tropos Networks and third-party partners. Tropos also announced that it is opening its purpose-built MetroMesh OS to best-of-breed solution developers via a series of application programming interfaces (APIs) that will encourage and accelerate development of additional tools and complementary products. The result will be higher performing, richer solutions for a full range of MetroMesh applications such as video surveillance, VoWi-Fi, broadband Internet access and more.
The first Tropos-developed MetroMesh tools are Tropos Insight, an advanced MetroMesh analyzer and optimizer, and Tropos Drive, a drive-test appliance to determine coverage and throughput in MetroMesh networks. Both products incorporate Tropos Networks' experience gleaned from hundreds of metro-scale deployments.
The first third-party tool in the family is SignalMX, a powerful MetroMesh coverage planning tool from EDX Wireless, specific to mesh architecture.
To encourage development of additional MetroMesh tools and components for tightly integrated metro-scale mesh solutions, Tropos will make a series of APIs available to Tropos MetroMesh Development Partners. The MetroMesh APIs will allow Tropos MetroMesh Development Partners to integrate with the Tropos MetroMesh OS, enabling them to use information collected by MetroMesh OS's embedded instrumentation and to control MetroMesh router configuration parameters. For example, developers of location-aware applications will be able use the API to determine the geographic location of a client within the mesh, while developers of bandwidth managers will be able to implement reservation policies at the edge of the metro-scale network.
"The Tropos mission is to bring the benefits of fast, low cost and simple wireless broadband access to people everywhere," said Ron Sege, president and CEO of Tropos Networks. "Tools such as Tropos Insight and Tropos Drive, combined with solutions developed by Tropos MetroMesh Development Partners, will accelerate the achievement of this goal by delivering better performing, higher-value solutions to our customers."
Tropos Insight is an advanced MetroMesh network analyzer and optimizer used to determine network-wide backhaul, mesh and client performance. Incorporating a statistical package that includes 42 reports, Tropos Insight retrieves data from the MetroMesh OS instrumentation embedded in each MetroMesh router, provides system-wide data correlation and identifies opportunities for performance optimization. This tool will allow network operators to keep up with the changing demands of their user base quickly and at low cost.
Tropos Drive is a purpose-built drive-test appliance used to determine coverage and throughput in MetroMesh networks. Tropos Drive correlates coverage and throughput measurements with latitude and longitude information, enabling network operators to pinpoint coverage gaps and areas of sub-optimal performance in their MetroMesh networks. The appliance can be configured to simulate the transmit power, receive sensitivity and antenna gain of the wide variety of client devices that may be used in MetroMesh networks. The result is quick and easy assessment of subscriber user experience across the network.
EDX Wireless' SignalMX offers a sophisticated MetroMesh coverage planning tool for use in designing Tropos MetroMesh networks. SignalMX, a mesh-specific add-on module to basic network design tool EDX SignalPro®, delivers accurate coverage and performance estimates and provides data transfer capabilities to and from the Tropos Control element manager when designing Tropos MetroMesh networks. With innovative capabilities, this tool will address all aspects of planning city-wide deployments of mesh networks, from dense urban to suburban and even rural environments.
"EDX is excited to join the Tropos MetroMesh Development Partner Program. In support of Tropos' mission to bring broadband networks to everyone, we're very pleased to integrate SignalMX with their network operation and optimization tools. The power of bringing Tropos' network control and measurement tools together with SignalMX gives network operators the most innovative and unparalleled ability to assimilate all aspects of their network design and optimization functions. It's the best of everything in a single solution." said EDX Wireless' CEO Paul Rathgeb.
Tropos Insight and Tropos Drive will be generally available in the first quarter of calendar year 2006, as will SignalMX from EDX Wireless. Tropos MetroMesh APIs will be made available to qualified Tropos MetroMesh Development Partners.
