BOSTON'S NEWBURYOPEN.NET COMMUNITY WI-FI NETWORK GETS A BOOST FROM TROPOS NETWORKS

One of the Largest Public Wireless Networks in Boston Gets Carrier-Class Solution

BOSTON, MA, August 29, 2007 - TroposŪ Networks, the market leader for metro-scale wireless mesh network systems, and Tech Superpowers, a local service provider, today announced that the free public wireless network infrastructure covering downtown Boston's Newbury Street has been upgraded with the Tropos MetroMesh system to improve the network experience for both community users and network administrators.

"By deploying the Tropos MetroMesh routers, we are taking the network up to the next level in terms of performance and reliability," said Mike Oh, President of Tech Superpowers. "Today, consumers expect commercial-grade reliability from community networks, and we get that from the MetroMesh routers. What surprised us was how easy our network is to maintain, with a fraction of the work that we had before with the previous low-end gear."

Tropos MetroMesh routers have been deployed on rooftops along historic Newbury Street to improve the performance and reliability of the community network enjoyed for free by mobile users of Wi-Fi enabled devices in parks, cafes, bookstores, restaurants and stores in the area such as Sonsie and Vera Wang.

"The NewburyOpen.net network is great for me. It's reliable and fast and I'm able to get my work done on the go. As a network technician, it's beneficial to have as much free Wi-Fi anywhere as possible," said Brian Murphy, Senior Field Service Engineer, Cambridge Public Schools.

"Tropos is glad to be a part of the Newbury Street scene, especially since several of our company's executives and founders have worked in Boston and hold degrees from the area's universities," said Ron Sege, Tropos Networks' President and CEO and past Chairman of the Board of Junior Achievement of New England and of the Massachusetts Telecommunications Council. "I am happy that Tropos can provide NewburyOpen.net a reliable and high performance Wi-Fi network foundation to offer a broad range of services on."
