TROPOS NETWORKS' ER-LINK DEPLOYMENT IN TUCSON, AZ WINS MOBILE INTERNET WORLD 2007 INNOVATION AWARD FOR MOST INNOVATIVE ENTERPRISE DEPLOYMENT
BOSTON, MA, November 15, 2007 - Live from Mobile Internet World - xchange magazine and Trendsmedia announced today that Tropos Networks' ER-Link Deployment in Tucson, Arizona has been selected to receive the Mobile Internet World 2007 Innovation Award for Most Innovative Enterprise Deployment. The first annual awards were held in conjunction with the Mobile Internet World Conference and Expo, November 13-15, in Boston, and recognize the leaders in the development and deployment of mobile Internet technology.
Nominations were open to all providers and vendors of mobile Internet technology and applications were selected by a judging panel of experts from the wireless community. In its first year, the awards program received more than 110 nominations, demonstrating the rapid expansion and innovations within the mobile Internet field.
Tropos Networks' ER-Link Deployment received the Innovation Award for its ER-Link Deployment in Tucson, last night at a ceremony following the close of the Mobile Internet World expo floor. Eliot Weinman, president of Trendsmedia, the events and publishing division of Yankee Group, and Tara Seals, associate editor of xchange, presented the awards in four categories. Tropos Networks and their award will be featured in the January 2008 issue of xchange, as well as on the Mobile Internet World and xchange Web sites.
"xchange is pleased to acknowledge Tropos Networks' contributions to the development and promotion of mobile Internet technology and services," said Mike Saxby, publisher of xchange. "Mobile Internet's success is dependent upon sustained innovation of companies like Tropos Networks that will no doubt be rewarded in the marketplace but also deserve recognition by the community it supports."
Eliot Weinman, conference co-chair added, "On behalf of Mobile Internet World, I congratulate Tropos Networks for winning this year's Mobile Internet World Innovation Award in Enterprise Deployment. The Mobile Internet World Innovation Awards winners truly represent the best and brightest mobile Internet technology, services and network implementations in the world."
Tropos Networks' ER-Link deployment in Tucson, Arizona is the nation's first operational video-based Emergency Medical Services (EMS) telemedicine system. The ER-Link application uses the e-BridgeT system from General Devices, a leader in advanced Telemedicine and communications products for EMS, Emergency Departments and Public Safety.
Covering 230 square-miles with the Tropos Wi-Fi network in Tucson, ER-Link enables doctors at Tucson's University Medical Center to use video and vital information telemetry to gain a sense of the severity of a patient's condition by viewing and in some cases speaking to patients in real time from Tucson Fire Department ambulances en route to the hospital. For trauma patients, time is of the essence and it is critical that the right personnel and equipment be available when the patient arrives in the ER. As of August 3rd, all of the Department's 17 ambulances have been equipped with the ER-Link system using the Tropos' MetroMeshT mobile Wi-Fi router to connect to the city's Wi-Fi network.
The winners were selected by an independent judging panel, including Zeus Kerravala, senior vice president enterprise research, Yankee Group; Joseph Ferra, chief wireless officer and senior vice president, Fidelity Investments; Peter White, principal analyst and founder, Rethink Research Associates Ltd.; Nino Tarantino, principal, T4 Advisory; Michael Khalilan, chairman and president, IMS Forum; and representatives from xchange and Trendsmedia.
