We are pleased to announce that Tropos Networks has been acquired by ABB. The acquisition brings Tropos’ world-class wireless mesh technologies and products, as well as a team of highly skilled employees, into ABB.

Tropos is now part of ABB’s Utility Communications product group, which runs a successful global business centered on fixed-wire and radio solutions. Our products are a welcome addition, helping ABB to expand its offering for smart grids and other critical infrastructure applications.

By melding Tropos’ technologies and technical expertise with ABB’s global reach and financial stability, the combined business provides customers and partners with a cost-effective solution for flexible, private distribution area communication networks supported by ABB’s global network of customer services. ABB’s customer base, which includes the energy, transportation and mining sectors, and their extensive sales organization, offers new and exciting geographic and vertical market opportunities for Tropos products.

Tropos will operate and develop new products from our Sunnyvale, California location as ABB’s Tropos Wireless Research Center. We will add additional engineering, sales and support resources. The current leadership team remains in place and there are no plans to change our existing business model. ABB will establish the Tropos Wireless Research Center as ABB’s center of excellence for wireless communications technologies.

Customers and partners benefit by combining Tropos’ wireless communications networks with ABB’s automation solutions, and system design and implementation services. They continue to enjoy the products and service they have come to expect from Tropos. We continue to offer support and will honor our commitments to customers and partners without interruption. Our goal is to provide you with the best products and services available on the market. We believe that our acquisition by ABB advances that goal.
